Udupi, Aug 10: IPS officer Sanjeev Patil took charge as superintendent of police (SP) of Udupi district on Thursday, August 10.

K T Balakrishna, hitherto SP, handed over the charge to Patil officially.  K T Balakrishna has been transferred to the Home Guards department as SP.

The order had been issued by the state government on Friday, August 4.

Sanjeev Patil was serving as SP of Anti-Corruption Bureau in Bengaluru from this May. Before that he had served as DCP of Mangaluru.

K T Balakrishna had taken charge as SP of Udupi district in July 2016.

Sanjeeva Patil speaking to media persons later said that he will give people-friendly service in the district. “Just one percent of the people are bad which is common in any society. I have taken full information from the former SPs Balakrishna and Annamalai regarding the realities here. I will visit every police station and every village in the district,”

“The police department will work hard to prevent illegal activities in the district. Anybody can express their problems or give information regarding illegal activities without any hesitation. If public do not get the satisfactory response from the station officials, they can contact meet directly,” he added.

“I will start phone-in programme every week in order to find out solutions for the grievances of public. The same kind of programme was organized in Mangaluru and it was successful. Public can share their problems openly with me. I will try to learn Tulu language to communicate with people,” he informed.

District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj visited new SP and wished him well.

It was indeed my privilege to know and interact with Mr. Sanjiv Patil during his tenure as D.C.P. Mangalore. As he rightly stated he will do a PEOPLE FRIENDLY job. However it is also known that he is ruthless to crime perpetrators.

I had the privilege of working with Mr. Patil for a while during my term as The Chief Traffic Warden, Mangalore. I could get all possible help from him and I had the privilege of meeting him and discussing the prevailing situation with him at any time. He has made several visits with me for spot inspections. His leaving Mangalore was a great loss to The City of Mangalore and to the people of Mangalore.

Congrats to you Mr. Patil. Wish you a fruitful and successful tenure in Udupi.
