Mangalore: 'Dry Days' Order Modified - No Liquor from May 14

Mangalore, May 14: Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer M. Maheshwar Rao has modified the earlier order in which he declared the dry days across Dakshina Kannada in view of the Assembly elections on Friday and counting of votes on May 25. According to the revised order, sale of liquor is prohibited from 5 p.m. on Wednesday May 14 till 12 noon on Saturday May 17.

Earlier, the ban on sale of liquor was effective from 6 a.m. on Thursday May 15 till Saturday.

Sale of liquor has also been banned for 48 hours from 12 a.m. on May 24.

    Though it makes sense to ban liquor, people will make provision to keep sufficient stock for 'dry days'. Secondly there is every possibility that the bar owners will make more money on the sale of liquor by selling them through their brokers if not directly. What will happen if there is no ban?
