Udupi, Aug 24: Department of English of Milagres College, Kallianpur, on Monday, August 21, organised the screening of Kannada film ‘Amaravathi’ and an analysis of the movie followed. The director of the movie BM Giriraj and his team participated in the interaction post-screening.
Renowned columnist and Human Rights activist, G Rajashekhar, initiated the discussion on the theme and direction of the movie.
Giriraj apprised the viewers the circumstances that lead to the production of the movie. The perennial problem of scavengers and scavenging in the cities was the theme of the movie. The problems faced by the most neglected workforce- ‘the manual scavengers’ was discussed by the viewers. The problem posed by slums and slum dwellers in the cities was deliberated upon. G Rajashekhar referred to Bezwada Wilson and his vision of a city without slums - which became the focus of the discussion.
The programme was presided over by principal of the college, Dr Vincent Alva. Chief guest Dr Fr Anil Prakash Castelino addressed the audience. Head of department of English prof Cyril Mathias, Chandrika, Sandeep Shetty from the department of English were present on the dais.
Nirmala of III BSC compered the programme. Yashodha of II BCOM thanked the gathering.
