Udupi, Sep 18: Our Lady of Rosary Church, Kallianpur, here on Sunday, September 10, hosted a voluntary blood donation camp, in collaboration with Mogaveera Youth Federation, Udupi district Kallianpur Unit, Mount Rosary Church Health Commission, Catholic Stree Sanghatan, Catholic Sabha and ICYM.
Additionally, Rotary Club, Kallianpur, Rotary Club Manipal Town, Jamia Jumma Masjid, Nejaru Balamaruti Gymanasium, Kaladegula, Kela Nejaru Old Students’ Association, Kallianpur, Dr TMA Pai High School, Kallianpur, NammaBalaga, Lakshmi Nagara and New Star Sports Club, Nidamballi joined hands for the event.
Chief guest Dr G Shankar, promoter of G Shankar Family Trust, and other dignitaries, lit the lamp at the inauguration of the camp.
Dr G Shankar his address said that 97,000 units of blood were collected thus far. He thanked all who helped in the movement.
Fr Dr Lesley Clifford D’Souza, parish priest of Mount Rosary Chruch blessed the event and said that blood donation was a noble act and is performed without distinction of caste and community.
Dr Shammi Shastri, director, Blood Bank, KMC, Manipal explained the benefits of blood donation.
Janardhan Tonse, district panchayat member, Kallianpur appreciated the programme.
Dr G Shankar arranged the programme. Ramanand Salian, president of Mogaveera Youth Federation, presided over the programme. Pushpa N Kotian, president, Kallianpur gram panchayat and others wished the organisation well.
Baptist Dias, vice-president Palana Mandali, Mount Rosary Church Santhekatte was on the dais.
Convener of Ayog, Mount Rosary Church, Santosh Cornelio, welcomed the dignitaries. Chandrakant of Mogaveera Federation, Kallianpur thanked the audience. Other presidents of associations on the dais included Louis D’Souza, Hilda Carneilo, Marita Lewis, Acquin Fernandes, Ashraf, KrishnaDevadiga and Udayakumar.
Other members of the associations including Dr Sesappa Rai, past president, Rotary Club Manipal Town, Arun D’Souza, president, Rotary Club, Kallianpur and Jai Vittal, Estate Officer, Manipal University were present on the dais.
Arun Kunder and Luke D’Souza compered the programme. Medical staff of Kasturba Hospital helped in conducting the camp.
Around 241 blood donors contributed to the success of the campaign.
