Mangaluru, Sep 18: State president of Praja Parivartana Vedike (Karnataka), B Gopal, said that the Vedike would be launching 'Governor Hatao' stir during October this year because of the reluctance of the state governor to sign the ordinance relating to protecting of reservation in promotions for scheduled castes and tribes in government jobs. He was addressing a press conference here on Sunday September 17 before a symposium organized on reservation in employment and promotions for SC/ST employees that was organized at the state government employees hall here began.

"On the basis of report furnished by additional chief secretary, Rathna Prabha, the SC/ST backlog details have been sent to the review committee of Supreme Court. The state government has to ward off the anti-reservation policies by moving the bill on reservations in the assembly," he urged.

Reservation is only representative, and it does not alleviate poverty. Supreme Court has commented in its verdict that reason for backwardness has not been shown. The state government failed to provide state level SC/ST cadre-wise data to the court during hearing. Because of this, a protest was held on March 23 and the government was asked to bring an ordinance. Although the state prepared an ordinance and sent it for  the governor's signature, the latter has not yet signed it, he said.

Gopal resented the comments in the Supreme Court verdict wherein it said that SC/ST people are stealing jobs,  reservation helps to continue casteism, they do not  properly work etc and asserted that they are wrong.

 Vedike's Daksina Kannada district unit president, Sundar Nidpalli, retired bank manager, Mahabal Moodbidri, and state president of Mogera Sangha Mangaluru, Sundar Mera, were present.
