Mangaluru, Sep 25: "Development and care of nature must go together. There is a necessity to axe trees for development, but at the same time, planting of trees in multiples must be done. Otherwise, there is no meaning to development," said J R Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru South.
He was speaking on Sunday, September 25, at the inaugural of Megha Tree Plantation Programme at Sabha Bhavan, Padua Degree College.
Before the programme, MLA Lobo planted a tree by the highway and inaugurated the programme formally.
The programme was organised by Green Ozone Charitable Trust in coordination with National Highway Authority India and Mangaluru City Corporation.
He further said, "It is a cause for panic as the city extends, but greenery dies. Nature is never selfish. Nature is the true God. It gives us oxygen; a means to life. This is the time to think about reforestation, as without forest, it will be difficult to live in the coming days. We give good education to our children for a bright future. We should also have a similar approach towards nature. We should protect our nature for our children, or they will suffer the consequences in the future. The younger generation should also put more efforts towards saving nature."
On the occasion, P Shridhar, RFO, launched the Green Ozone Charitable Trust website.
Dinesh Naik of Sasya Shamala, Roopa D Bangera, corporator, Srikara Prabhu of Shrirama Kendra Trust Kalladka, Rajesh Kumar Amtadi, Joyel R Saldhana, Lourd Swamy Mysore, Ranjith Maroli, president of Green Ozone Charitable Trust, Manoj Bangera, secretary, were present on the dais.
After the programme, trust members planted trees along NH 66 from Nantur to Surathkal.
