Mangaluru, Sep 25: In a surprising incident, a man who was about to leave the hospital after getting discharged suddenly committed suicide in the bathroom of the hospital. This incident happened on Saturday September 23. A case of unnatural death about this incident was registered in Pandeshwar police station here.
The man in question has been identified as Shariff (36) from Parpunja in Puttur. He was a lorry driver by profession. He had got himself admitted into a hospital at Falnir here for treatment of leg pain on September 16. After treatment, his problem was addressed and he had prepared to leave hospital for home on Saturday. At his request, the hospital had finalized the bill by 12 pm and he had ordered for lunch for his wife and her brother who were with him at the time. Therefore, it is said that he went into the bathroom, duly conversing in his cellphone. He did not come back even after considerable time thereafter.
The wife grew suspicious and knocked the bathroom door but there was no response. The door was bolted from inside. She then informed about this development to the nurse, who in turn contacted the hospital manager, who asked a carpenter to break open the bolt and open the door. It was found that Shariff had hanged himself from the shower inside the bathroom. The body was brought down, and his pulse could be felt. As such, he was provided with treatment. By the time he was connected to ECG machine, he had breathed his last. The body was then taken to Wenlock Hospital for postmortem, after which it was handed over to the family members.
The policemen said they could not immediately get to know the reason behind this suicide, but that the wife had claimed that Shariff was under immense mental pressure.
Other family members of Shariff expressed doubts about this death. They claimed that there was no grave reason for Shariff to decide to end his life. There are claims that Shariff had married three women. As a result, there was confusion about whom to hand over the body. At last, the policemen released the body to the family members of Shariff who were with him at the time of his death.
