Kasargod: Conference on conservation of rivers held at Chandragiri river banks

Kasargod, Sep 28: A conference on river conservation proclaiming the message of protecting water bodies and creating awareness about it was held in the leadership of district environment protection committee on the banks of river Chandragiri here on Wednesday, September 27.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr Rajendra Singh, known as water man of India and winner of Stockholm water prize. Deputy Commissioner K Jeevan Babu, district panchayat president A G C Basheer, municipal council president Beefathima Ibrahim, block panchayat president Mohammed Kunji, K Abdul Khader Haji, Professor A Srinath, V Gopinath and other elite were present.

“Water from rivers was used for drinking and for bath a few years ago. But river water has become dirty these days. Rivers are getting destroyed. Rivers are the pulse of our lives. Humans and other creatures cannot live without rivers. We should take an oath to conserve rivers at least for next generation,” opined Dr Rajendra Singh.

An oath was taken for conservation of rivers and water.
