Mangaluru: Vamanjoor woman under house arrest rescued from Saudi Arabia

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 21: It is learnt that a woman from Vamanjoor here, who had opted to work in Saudi Arabia because of the need to support her ailing husband and finance her son's education, had to go through gruelling ordeal at her workplace. After SDPI's Dakshina Kannada district unit came to know about her problems and intervened in the matter through a youth organization in Saudi, the lady could be found out and help could be extended to her.

The woman who went through unexpected miseries happens to be Vijaya (43), wife of Balappa Balakrishna (55), residing in second block, Kelarai Kody, Vamajoor. She was held under house arrest at Dammam, Saudi Arabia. As such, she could neither contact her family back home, nor could she return to India since the last several months. Her husband and son, Jagjivan, who is a first PU student, are awaiting her arrival back home now.

Vijaya was compelled to shoulder the responsibility of running her family. In view of financial needs of the family, she had left to work as housemaid in Saudi Arabia on July 15, 2015. She had got this job through an acquaintance based in Bajpe. Initially, Vijaya could be contacted on phone, but thereafter her calls became very rare. After working for two years, Vijaya wanted to return home because of the gravity of her husband's health condition, but her sponsors at Saudi Arabia did not accede to her request, nor did they allow her to use cellphone. Therefore, Balakrishna and her son were under stress, having been unable to know about the well-being of Vijaya.

Balakrishna had narrated about the situation to some people, through whom the matter reached Riaz Farangipet, an activist of SDPI. He passed on this information to a group of young men from coastal Karnataka based in Saudi Arabia. Thereafter, Indian Social Forum, which has been turning into a Saviour for non-resident Indians from Karnataka in that country, brought the issue to the notice of Indian embassy there. The organization, which could find out the whereabouts of Vijaya, also registered a complaint in the labour court there.

Riyaz has already sent the necessary documents to the organization, and the organization activists have expressed the confidence that the woman would be able to return home soon.

A SDPI delegation led by Dakshina Kannada district unit general secretary, A M Athaulla, met Balakrishna at his home on Monday November 20.The delegation comprising Noorulla Kulai, Nasir Ulaibettu, Iqbal Vamanjoor, Saleem Guruvayanakere of Indian Social Forum and Niyaz Addur accompanied Athaulla during the visit.

Because of reservation in education and jobs India's progress in employment generation has hampared as there is no scope for people to develop indigenous industries and there is braindrian of capable people. If equal opportunites given India can progress more and no need for our people to go to others door for earning livlihood. There should be love, togetherness and equality among Indians.

This is not the first incident where housemaids are tortured by employers in Saudi Arabia. There are many of them and other expatriates who are not happy to work in Saudi and other Gulf countries. Most of them have been cheated by some idiot agents. I hope this lady will be finally released from captivity and reunite with her family as soon as possible. Good luck to SDPI in trying their best to help this woman in distress.

all those going to any gulf countries as maids it is not like any other country.it is totally different life here. i am living in kuwait for several years. and i know the agony and problems they face in kuwaiti houses. arab women are more wilder than men. men have little mercy, but women no!!!and the whole house is conroled by women. in kuwait it is very hard to find a good house. one must be lucky enough to get a good house otherwise she has to wake up at 4 am and can go to bed only after 12 am. the payment also not more than 15000 bucks. i believe if any woman works in india also this much hours she can earn more than this, without torture.

House Maid Visas to Saudi Arabia should be banned in India. Other GCC states have no issues regarding House Maids unless the sponsers trouble the Maid.

Do whatever you want to do man... but never trouble the Maid man.... who is like your Mother and sister man...

In Kuwait the Indian Embassy had imposed a requirement for employers of housemaids to provide bank guarantee of about Rs. 1.5 lakh in favour of the Embassy which will be refunded as soon as the maid leaves Kuwait. As a result many employers have stopped bringing Indian housemaids. Such condition must be introduced in all GCC countries.

The ones who go to Saudi Arabia to work as housemaid must know that the life as a housemaid is not same as a housemaid in India.
Here in India you work as a Housemaid, you can work whole day long and then you are free to go to your own house. Even if you stay as a Housemaid, you are free to go out spend sometime etc., etc.,
But, in Saudi Arabia, it's totally different. Ones you are employed by a sponsor, you will work there in their house. You get a chance to go out only if they take you out when they go out. That's it. It's the way it is in Saudi Arabia.
But, when we compare, that looks like "House Arrest"
So, in future whoever does not wish to get "House Arrested", should not go there at all.
There is little more income than India
But, life is worst than India.

Hot and cold both are in its peak. not rest and no holidays other then weekend and eid unlike in india .

those are looking for fun, enjoyment and easy work atmosphere should not be look at Middle east.
