Syria's Omar Kharbin named Asian Player of the Year


Bangkok, Nov 30 (IANS): Syrian footballer Omar Kharbin was named the AFC men's Player of the Year 2017, while Japanese Takafumi Hori won the men's Coach of the Year title here.

The Syria forward has made 36 appearances for his national team scoring 16 goals since 2016. He plays for the Al-Hilal in Saudi Professional League.

The 23-year-old also became the first Syrian ever to win the Asian Footballer of the Year on Wednesday.

"AFC Player of the Year: Omar Khrbin Congratulations," AFC tweeted.

Among the other awards, Korean Son Heung-min was named International Player of the Year, Lee Seungwoo the men's Youth Player of the Year and Samantha Kerr given the Women's Player of the Year title.
