Bengaluru, Jan 6: Food grains that were supposed to fill the empty stomachs of poor people, got infested with insects because of the negligence of the government. More than 25,000 quintal of wheat, millet, sugar, salt, oil and green gram that was to be distributed under the Public Distribution System (PDS) to the needy people got rotten in the godowns itself.

Reason:

State government increased the quota of rice from five kg to seven kg from July 2017. However, they did not plan the distribution of other food grains accordingly. That is why the other good grains got spoilt and are not fit for consumption now.

Solution:
According to the report of the 'Food Safety Laboratory' the condition of the said grains is not fit for consumption even by the animals as it contains worms. There is no other way with the government now apart from destroying the same, whose worth is Rs 12 crore.
