MANGALORE, Aug 4: Chairman of Administrative Reforms Commission M. Veerappa Moily on Sunday sought the support of environmentalists for generation of nuclear energy in the country.

Speaking after inaugurating a convention of the Congress workers here he said that the country would have to depend on nuclear energy in the future.

“After Information Technology revolution, the country will witness a revolution in nuclear energy sector in the next 15 years,” he said.

Nuclear energy reactors would not only help in meeting the energy requirements of the country but would also create more employment opportunities.

Nuclear energy would become an essential source of power to irrigation schemes, he said.

“Environmentalists should support nuclear energy generation programmes.

India will emerge as the hub of nuclear energy in the world,” he said. Mr. Moily claimed that 85 per cent of energy requirements in France were met by nuclear energy. France initiated the nuclear energy programmes in 1970. China was aiming at strengthening its nuclear energy programmes, he said.

He said that opportunism had increased in politics. The political leaders were no longer committed to values.

The party would launch a country-wide “Gandhi march” to strengthen its base, he said. B. Janardhana Poojary, former MP, advised the party workers to follow strict discipline.

Charge 

Poojary alleged that the Left parties had no trust in the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. Those parties had considered Mao Tse-Tung and Joseph Stalin as their leaders. The Left parties did not support the nuclear deal fearing that India might overtake China in economic activities, he said. MLAs B. Ramanatha Rai and U.T. Khader, spoke.
