Mangalore, Aug 4: The man who was found murdered at Naguri in the city on Saturday August 2 night has been identified as Nagesh Bhat (40), son of late Umanath Bhat, working as an electrician in Puttur Campco chocolate factory.

Bhat was living in a rented house located at Puttur Bannur and had come to the city for some work on Saturday. Details of whom he had accompanied while coming to the city, whom did he meet and why, who else were present at the time of murder and the purpose of the murder, are not clear.

At about 5 pm, Bhat had informed his family over phone from Saibeen Complex in the city that he had bought a new mobile phone. He was murdered at about 9.15 pm near Amar Alva bus shelter at Naguri on national highway 48. The spot is secluded and covered by darkness, which helped the murderers to execute their plans easily and flee from the scene, it is thought.

After recovering an identify card in his possession, the police had enquired at the Campco residential quarters at Padil, and after confirming that he was a Campco employee, contacted their Puttur counterparts. Mother and relatives of the deceased came to Wenlock hospital and identified his body on Sunday August 3. They took the body to Puttur where funeral was conducted.

Nagesh Bhat had been working with Campco for the last 15 years and besides attending to electrical wiring, he also worked as crane operator. He is survived by wife and children.

The post mortem examination has confirmed this to be a case of murder. Mangalore rural police station inspector Jayant V Shetty has registered a case.
