Udupi, Aug 9: Regional Transport Officer M P Omkareshwari, who also happens to be the secretary to the Regional Transport Authority, has said that the regional transport office has received lots of complaints about running vehicles on hire by private buses, private taxies, cars and autorickshaws without possessing necessary permission. Steps are being taken to investigate into the complaints and action will be taken against erring vehicles, she said.
District Taximen's Association has complained to the authority that private cars are being run like taxies, autorickshaws are run in violation of licensing conditions and jurisdictional norms, while private buses run trips for carrying marriage parties without obtaining permission, she informed.
As a result, maxi-cabs and tourist taxies that entirely depend on the hire charges are facing untold miseries. Hence, whenever cases of flouting licensing norms as above are brought to the notice of the regional transport officer during its investigations, stringent action against such vehicles will be taken, she said.
The drivers of maxi-cabs and tourist taxies need to compulsorily wear their uniforms and carry passengers as per the passenger capacity of the vehicle. If they violate these rules, they will also face similar actions, she stressed.
