Udupi, Aug 23: The Mangalore University (MU) All College Students Union executive committee staged a massive protest here on Friday, August 22, urging the governor and MU vice-chancellor, to withdraw the credit-based semester system of examinations and submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner (DC) Hemalata P in this regard.

The protesters alleged that thousands of students were in distress owing to the current system which consumes all their time leaving no time for any extra curricular activities. The students are facing an uncertain future due to the anti-student policies pursued by MU. They demanded withdrawal of  the credit-based semester stating that students are future citizens of our country and their college days will have a direct impact on the rest of their lives.

The union also threatened to go on a hunger strike in front of the MU office if their demands are not met at the earliest. Over 800 students from 19 colleges under MU were involved in the protest. The rally began from the service bus stand to the district headquarters where their leader presented the memorandum to the DC.

All College Union executive committee founder Shantiprasad Hegde, MU All College Students district president Harish Padukere, and student leaders of various colleges were also involved in the protest.
