Udupi, Mar 27: Kaup municipal council in its meeting unanimously agreed to provide free drinking water to four parties as they have come forward to provide land to dig bore wells for water in the council limits. Chief officer Rayappa took up the subject in the ordinary meeting of the council on Monday, March 26.

Opposition leader Arun Shetty and Anil Kumar expressed dissatisfaction asking the rationale behind laying foundation for footpath for a road that is only three meters wide. “It is difficult for a vehicle to pass on the road. How was the ground breaking held without preparing project report and blue print?” they asked. “Is it logical to ignore demand for essential footpath for wide Polipu road and select this road,” asked member Kiran Alva.

“The road will be constructed through Delta. We had submitted report about six roads. They have themselves selected this road. The details will be obtained after survey in a week. The funds of the project cannot be sent back. Those will be used for some other road,” said Rayappa.

“It is one and a half month since the road was dug for drainage in Kaup market. People are facing hardship as the road is not repaired. People are asking council members,” lamented member Anil.

“The matter is brought to the notice of contractor. But they have not taken up the work. The council will complete the work and the amount involved will be recovered from them,” said the chief officer.

“A survey of the land belonging to other government departments around government land belonging to council should be taken up. Some government land has no titles,” said Arun Shetty.

Rayappa said that separate place has been identified in the market for sale of chicken, goats and sheep during Suggi and Maripooje. “Police have requested the council to open those outlets in suitable places for the smooth flow of traffic on national highway.”

“There are 32 shops altogether. All of them will be picked by lots. The shops will not be auctioned. Traders of chicken and meat should give importance for cleanliness. The workers will start work from Tuesday morning itself,” he said.

Council president Malini, vice president K H Usman and standing committee president Shantalatha Shetty were present.
