Udupi, Apr 4: 'Black Line 2018’, an art exhibition at Vibhuthi Art Gallery, was inaugurated by K L Bhat, retired principal of Chithrakala Mandira, on Tuesday, April 3.

K L Bhat, the chief guest said, “I have served painting for 40 years. Even after retirement, I paint six hours every day. Painting is my religion.

Senior art critic A Ishwarayya, said, “Black and white colours blended in traditional painting is quite against to nature, but there is no world without colour. An artiste can convey horror and beauty through white and black colour.”

Admiring the work of students Ishwarayya said, “There is creative thought and perfection in painting. Senior artists have made a strong base in Udupi for the development of painting.

“Eminent artist G S Shenoy was dynamic and brought the turning point in this field. Ramesh Ray created revolution. Homo sapiens were used art (drawing) as media of communication not music. Art is a first communication aspect, which comes without training. Imitation is the first step of learning and growing in art. There are four faces in art are pratikruthi (portrait), Prakruti (nature), akruthi (sketch) and vikruthi (deformity). People have prejudice in terms of actual beauty. It is always difficult to define art because it infinite, there is no limitations,” said Ishwarayya.

U C Niranjan, director of Chitrakala Mandira was present.

As many as 27 pieces were displayed at the gallery drawn by Harish Naik, Pradeep Kumar, Ashwath Kumar, Vikram, Ranjith, Chethan, Prashanth Kumar, Keerthi, Thejaraj, Bharat, Avyakta, Jahnavi and Akshatha.

The drawings were made by the outgoing degree students of Kalavidyalaya, Chitrakala Mandir.

The paintings were made using black ink pens, markers, and ball pens. Meera under tree, Krishna Rukmini, and some abstract paintings were dispalyed.

Megha Hegde compered the programme.

Pradeep Kumar welcomed the gathering.
