Mumbai, April 6: In a shocking incident, cash and gold jewellery carried by a groom in a private bus heading to Mangaluru from here on Thursday night, April 5 were stolen.

Roshan Sequeira hailing from Allipade Pucherkatte, Navoor, Bantwal runs a shop at Marol, Andheri. He was on his way to Mangaluru by private AC bus, in preparation for his wedding. The bus halted at Navami Hotel, Satara, for meals. Whilst away, his suitcase was torn with a sharp weapon and Rs three lac worth Kariamani, bracelet, rings, gold chain and cash were stolen.

Roshan got to know of this after his meal when the bus reached Karad. He brought the matter to the notice of the bus driver and conductor who drove to Kolapur police station but, the police reportedly refused to register the complaint as the incident had taken place within Satara police station limits and asked him to register a complaint there. The bus continued on its journey to Mangaluru as suggested by Roshan who did not want to go back to Satara.

The manager of the bus asked the concerned to check all the CC cameras at Navami Hotel. They have extended full cooperation to the police and their customer Roshan.

Passengers alertness crucial

“Most of these incidents take place only due to irresponsibility of passengers. Travelers need to be cautious about their valuables while carrying them. It is unfair to blame or hold others responsible thereby causing mental agony. Besides, co passengers cannot be suspected,” said the bus driver and conductor. They have asked bus passengers who are aware of such incidents to be alert.
