Beltangady, Apr 11: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, and superintendent of police, Ravikanthe Gowda, visited polling booths located in naxal-infested aeas in the taluk on Tuesday April 10.

The duo visited places like Naravi, Kuthloor, Navara, Kariyala and Didupe within the limits of Kudremukh National Park. Villagers of Malavanthige came up with long-pending demand for roads between Didupe - Yelaneeru - Samse.

Villages like Yelaneeru, Gutyadka, Badamane etc situated within the limits of Malavanthige gram panchayat are located inside Kudremukh National Park. Because of restrictions imposed by forest department, they are devoid of basic facilities. The villagers said that the gram panchayat office is located only seven km from their place but because of lack of road, they have to cover 120 km to reach there for any work. Although there is mud road, it cannot be repaired. Because of forest department, they have been deprived of even power supply and roads. Local taluk panchayat member, Jayaram, explained to the deputy commissioner, that laying road between Didupe and Samse via Yelaneeru will address most of the problems.

The deputy commissioner promised to discuss the issue with divisional forest officer and come back to Yelaneeru within a week. Superintendent of police, Ravikanthe Gowda, opined that the problem should be sorted out in a way that benefits people without violating law.

Police circle inspector of the town station, Xandeh P G, revenue department officials, police personnel and villagers were present.
