Mangalore, Sep 1: Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project (KUDCEMP) executive engineer Maninarayan said that the body will be executing all the projects entrusted to it including underground drainage, drinking water scheme etc., funded through Asian Development Bank loan, by the year 2010.

He was trying to pacify the city corporators, who were complaining about the inordinate delay in executing these projects, at a progress review meeting of KUDCEMP projects held on Sunday August 31 in the meeting hall of the City Corporation. While the underground drainage work will be completed by 2009, drinking water project, shifting of pipes etc., will be completed by 2010, he reiterated.

Because of delay in acquiring lands for water supply and underground projects, KUDCEMP could not execute works on time. The land acquisition is almost complete now, except for a land measuring five acres and 26 cents, which will be completed within the next three months, he said.

Under the projects executed by KUDCEMP, the processing of garbage and affluent is going on at Kavoor, Suratkal, Pacchadi and Jappinamogaru. Including the presently functioning eight, a total of 23 wet wells will be functional once the underground drainage project is completed. Lot of time was lost in removing hurdles that came in our way while executing works on a land on the national highway on which railways have a hold, he explained. Some changes in our plans were necessitated after discussions with the railways, delaying matters further, he clarified.

City mayor Ganesh Hosabettu, deputy mayor Shakeela Kava, city commissioner Samir Shukla etc., were present.
