Udupi, Apr 16: The members of district Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) and citizens of the city staged a silent protest at War Memorial ground, Ajjarkad here on Monday, April 16 demanding justice for the 8-year-old Kathua rape and murder victim and severe punishment to the accused.

The protestors expressed their anger by burning images of the accused.

Ansar Ahmed, president of district KRV said, “The rape and murder is very much condemnable. It is a shame to the entire human community. In the beginning, the local police have tried to close the case. The incident came to light, when the case was handed over to the crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Even the United Nations expressed shock over the gang rape and murder. When such crimes take place, the first question would be ‘Which religion she belongs to?’ This thought should be changed. All political parties are same. Politicians are using such cases for their political gains. That should be come to an end.

“There is a strict rule for rapists in Gulf countries, but in India, severe action is not taken by court. Executing punishments like Gulf countries in India will reduce violence against women in the country.

“Gang rape cases have come to light in Uttar Pradesh and Uttar Kannada too. Where is India heading to? Everyday girls and women are being harassed sexually and mentally by people. All this should come to an end.

“We want a decision in the case in 90 days and a verdict within 100 days,” he said.

Rehman, Shahil, Santhosh Shetty Panjimaru, Sandeep, Junaid, Sameer, Rehamathulla and others were present.
