Kasargod: Boy drowns on his birthday near Uppal

Kasargod, Apr  18: A 12-year-old boy drowned in a rivulet after celebrating his birthday. This tragic incident happened on Tuesday April 17 afternoon.

The deceased is identified as Abheesh (12), son of Vikraman - Anita couple from Adkathabail Bhagawathi Nagar near here. He was a sixth standard student of Kukar school at Bandyodu.

At around 3 pm on Tuesday, Abheesh had left along with some friends to collect shells from Shiriya rivulet. After sometime, Abheesh's friends noticed with dismay that their friend was drowning and was frantically trying to save himself. They shouted for help at which locals rushed to the spot.  

Police personnel from Kumble station and fire brigade personnel came there. The boy was brought out with help from locals and taken to a hospital but his life could not be saved.
