Mangalore, Sep 4:
"We should retain Konkani as an optional subject in schools to enrich Konkani tradition and culture," said newly-appointed president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (KKSA) Narayan Kharvi.

He was speaking after taking charge as president of academy at its office here on Thursday September 4.
He said that academy should work for the welfare of its people along with literature. He added that academy's first priority should be people who build up tradition and culture.

Eric Ozario, former president said that every Konkani community should represent the academy. "The appointment of Narayan Kharvi to the president's post is a big blow to the Brahmanism which has been prevailing in the Konkani community for a long time," he opined.

Dr Edward Nazareth, VG Pal, Roy Castelino, Ramachandra Baikampady, Louis Pinto, KG Naik and Raviraj Kharvi spoke on the occasion.
