Mangalore: 12 Teachers Selected for District Teacher Award

Mangalore, Sep 5: On the occasion of the Teachers Day, a function is being held in the city on Friday September 5, during which 12 teachers from the district will be conferred with the 'district teacher' awards. Among them, seven are primary school teachers and the rest, from high schools.
Shivaram Tumbe from Tumbe in Bantwal taluk, who has put in 23 years of service and working as the in charge headmaster of Attavar government higher primary school in the city since the last ten years, has been selected for the award. The school in which he works, has been identified as a model school by the government.
Frank Hillary D'Souza, a native of Arva from Beltangady taluk, has been working as teacher for the last 27 years, and is presently serving as teacher in Mangalore Pompei Highschool since the last 11 years. He had evinced interest in growing school forest and set up Rohini Science Club besides Kalpana Chawla Science Club at Agrar. He also had served as resource person for teaching and has set up Junior Red Cross and school library in Pompei Highschool.

Sr Teresa Sequeira from Moodubelle in Udupi district, has been in the profession since the last 32 years. Presently she is serving as the headmistress of Neerude Mukti Prakash Highschool near Moodbidri.
Edward D'Souza, teacher of Kattadabail school of Beltangady taluk has put in 16 years of service. Disciiplined and quality education apart from extra-curricular activities have been his forte. He already has bagged the taluk best teacher award, best school award for quality education and best SDMC award.
N Gangadhar, serving at Beltangady St Teresa school since the last 26 years, has always been encouraging children to take up extra-curricular activites. He is interested in sports and had won the 'popular teacher' award in the past.
Diwakar Acharya is the in-charge vice principal of Uppinangady PU college. He has 23 years of service to his credit. The Science Centre set up in Uppinangady government PU college by him in 1999, has won the best centre award for five consecutive years. Several of his science articles have won prizes.
Gracy Pinto Kadaba, teaching at St Joachim's higher primary school Kadaba, had won the 'popular teacher' award in 2002. She has been working for the overall development of the children. She had annexed Himalayan Wood Badge award in scouts activities. She is adept in dance and Yakshagana art form.
Girija Bai, headmistress of Daregudde ZP higher primary school in Moodbidri, had won the 'popular teacaher' award in 2003, Kannada Ratna teacher award in 2006 and state level best organizer award in 2006. She takes interest in training children in music, plays, literature etc.,
Annaiah M, headmaster of Kuppepadav Kilinjar ZP higher primary school in Mangalore taluk, has put in 34 years of service as teacher. He had won the 'popular teacher' award ub 2002-03. He gives prominence to improving infrastrucutre facilities and sports activities.
Sankappa Shetty, teacher of Badagabellur Aided Model higher primary school in Bantwal, is in the field for the last 29 years. He has trained many children in elocutions and ensured their success in various competitions. He is known for his talents in the fields of plays, solo skits and as amateur Yakshagana Arthadhari. He always reports at the school before 9 am and has actively involved himself in various other acativities.
P N Bhat Balila, science and mathematics teacher of Balila Vidyabodhini Highschool in Sullia taluk, has excelled in making educational equipments and models for science model making contests and convening science seminars. His model has won special prize in the south India level science model making competition in 2008.
Damodar K, headmster of Madappady higher primary school in Sullia taluk, has also won the 'popular teacher' award in 2001-02. He had taken lot of interest in building teachers hostel in Madappady school.
