Mangalore: Express Bus Overturns, 15 Injured, Two Seriously

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 5: At around 6.45 am on Friday September 5, an express bus that was moving towards Mangalore from Udupi, went out of control and capsized near Pavanje temple on the national highway 17, injuring 15 persons. The condition of two of the injured is serious and they have been admitted into a private hospital in Mangalore, while the others were treated at Suratkal.

The bus was moving at a tremendous speed at the time, and had just overtaken three ore-laden trucks, eye-witneses said. A crater was created at the spot due to the impact of the accident. Fortunately no lives have been lost although the intensity of the accident was great and the bus swirled around violently before settling on the road with a thud, they said.

Two persons in serious condition, were immediately moved to Mangalore for treatment. The other injured were carried in other buses. The bus driver went missing after the accident.

Mulki sub-inspector Sudarshan arrived on the spot and took steps to register a case and move the vehicle aside. As the accident took place early morning, the accident did not pose much of a problem to either the traffic or other vehicles.

Melroy is right. What this nation of ours suffers from is proper infrastructure. Policing is another area which is in utter neglect. Policing of Highways is almost absent. Incidents of Accidents are the only reasons the police is drawn to the highways and not to forget their usual 'hafta' collections.

Agree with Bharath Shetty. RTO officer should take stern action against careless bus drivers, then the fear of loosing licence will lead to be careful, responsible drivers.

Please stop putting the blame on the trucks for everything, including congestion, damaging the roads etc. They have the equal rights to use to the road as other vehicles. Instead build wider roads, which will not get damaged even if an airplane lands on them. Building two directional roads with barrier, encourage synchronized driving where everyone drives at same speed, provide designated areas for buses to stop and pick passengers away from active zone, avoid cattle, pedestrians, cycles, rickshaws crossing as per their own will. This will surely solve the problem of overtaking and introduce safe driving in India. The blame will move away from buses from being rash. The blame should be on our people who do not understand the need for better infrastructure and still vote for our old leaders.

The private buses in Mangalore now a days trying to break the records of Delhi Blueline buses which killed hundreds of people. The RTO must take strong actions if they mislead the transport law like overspeeding, unnecessary overtakes, compitition between buses, abusing other vehicle drivers for not allowing them to overtake etc.. Just cancel the permits or suspension of license of drivers etc etc.... But for all this RTO officers need to be very honest not bribe takers. I am sorry but this is my personal experience.

Reckless issuance of permits Oreladen trucks by the hundreds Roads that lead directly to hell A bus conductor who want to stop and pick people every single kilometer. A driver who wants his job badly A bus owner who is never satisfied with the amount of daily revenue.

A government which is just talk but bulls**t inside A country that fights within for all the wrong reasons A middleclass population like you and me who are mute spectators. Everyone has a role in all such things happening. This country needs to be taught what freedom actually means. Is it high time we got a dictator who would be just but still rule with a iron hand????
