B'lore: Achievement – State Affects over Thousand Transfers within 100 Days

Bangalore, Sep 6: The state government led by the BJP can at least flaunt one record for sure. It has created a new record by transferring about a thousand government officials in the state, even before it could complete 100 days in power.

Almost all the transfers were affected in the state after the sunset. These transfers have proved to be a headache for the senior officers. Meanwhile, the opposition party leaders have accused the government of indulging in transferring people after entering into 'deals' with unscrupulous elements, and that many of the transfers were made, taking into consideration the caste of the officials concerned.

Already 58 IAS, 83 KAS, 45 IPS, 18 IFS, 416 inspectors, 128 DySPs, 171 sub-inspectors and 165 tax department officers have been transferred in the state by the BJP government. Interestingly, many of the officers were transferred back to the positions previously held by them, before they could assume charge at the transferee places. The wholesale transfer of inspectors and sub-inspectors has created a sense of confusion among the officers. In the case of many police officers, their 'stations of posting' have not been mentioned. A lot of them have not yet assumed charge at the stations to which they are posted. As a result, cases continue to pile up at police stations without being attended to.

The state government began affecting transfers in the police department, in the month of August 2008. This transfer process continues to roll on even to this day. Sources have revealed that the transfer process of inspectors and sub-inspectors is not yet over. Meanwhile, the city and some district headquarters, which have perceived threats from terrorists and anti-social elements, have not been able to work out their strategies and prepare for any eventuality. The state government continues to show keen interest in transferring the police officers, instead of planning proper strategies to curb the menace of terrorism in the state.

Sources also add that mass transfer has been a common phenomenon in the state, whenever a new government takes charge. However, such a large number of transfers is being witnessed in the state for the first time.
