Kundapur: Man buried alive due to landslip inside well

Kundapur, May 2: In a tragic incident which happened at Ajri village near Shankarnarayana in the taluk on Tuesday May 1, a youth was buried alive after a huge mound of wet earth got deposited on him when working inside a well there.

The victim of this incident was Vishwanath (24), son of Kunthappa Maistry from Neralakatte in Karkunje village. The incident happened at around 2.45 pm when Vishwanath was working to fix a ring inside the well belonging to Manjunath Bairy in Ajri.

Four other workers were also with Vishwanath to execute work inside the well. They however, were unharmed. A case stands registered in this connection at Shankarnarayana police station against the owner of the well and the contractor who hired Vishwanath for the work.

Tragically, a labourer lost his life on Labour Day. This incident has again driven home the need for taking all safety precautions when working in a hazardous atmosphere.
