Mangalore, Sep 8: The Monti Fest celebration here at the Our Lady of Miracles church, Hampankatta popularly known as the Milagres Church has got the history of 102 years.  In fact, the first time the people of Milagres started celebrating this feast in the year 1906.

In the early  hours September 8, the procession of devotees took off from Attavar New Road junction along with band and tableau.  Children carried various types of flowers in plates and baskets as a token of their offering to Mother Mary.

At the entrance of Milagres Church Fr Lawrence R D'Souza, principal, Milagres College blessed the new corn and children offered flowers to Mother Mary singing some of the beautiful hymns.

Later Fr Walter D'Mello, parish priest, Fr Austin Fernandes, assistant parish priest, Fr J J Saldanha, Fr Santhosh Rodrigues along with Fr Lawrence R D'Souza offered the mass.

Unlike other places, in Milagres people used to gather at one of the houses in their wards for nine days prior to the feast for novena instead of gathering at the church.

Milagris Church has all along been keeping up the great traditions and the present even of Monthi Fest is no exception. The Church under the leadership of Father Walter D'Mello is doing a great job. It is good to see the team spirit exhibited by Father Austin Fernandes, Father J.J. Saldanha, Father Santhosh Rodrigues and Father Lawrence D'Souza. Father Lawrence D'Souza has indeed given a very good account of himself as an efficient and effective Principal of Milagris teaching Institutions. Mr. Alwyn Rosario as the Vice President of The Parish Council has all along stood firmly by The Parish Priest and The Church. Kudos to Father Walter and the other fathers and Alwyn on conducting such a good show. Joe Gonsalves

Missing it Heavily, What a joy and moments of those tiny 9 days when we were kids …… throwing the school bag and rushing to fetch the flowers …. Organizing new new programs and thinking with new creativity to celebrate differently in every year when we were young adults …. Wishing a very happy Monthi fest to entire diji team, my fellow Mangis who are scattered in every face of the earth, all the Priests, Nuns, friends, and loved ones back home … VR D’souza

It is indeed great pleasure to celebrate our dear Monthi Fest all over Mangalore Diocese. I wish a very happy Monthi Fest to Daji Team for providing us this wonder news and pics of various parishes celebrations. I also have a suggestion that Daji Team visit if possible some parishes in Udupi Dist as well, esp. Pangala Parish bacuse it is entirely differnt atmosphere in Pangala.

After the usual celebration in the morning all parisheners again meet at the church/school compound to celebrate various sports/track games/items such as race from age 5 to 60 year olds. It is very chrilling experience. Also on that day prizes are distributed for the tournaments held in the previous weeks especially arranged for this occasion such as Cricket/Volliball/throwball, etc.

Finally we wind up with some traditional items such as Modki Puttavnche, and a stage programe. I hope Daiji team can make it today to our Parish. thanks and once again wish you all readers of Daiji a very Happy feast of Nativity of our dear Mother Mary.
