Beltangady: Vehicle hits tree - woman dies on spot

Beltangady, May 7: After a vehicle hit a tree by the roadside near Guripalla Cross within Ujire gram panchayat on the evening of Sunday May 6, a woman lost her life. The victim has been identified as Sumathi (30), wife of Dejappa from Kapikad House in Panjikallu village in the taluk.

Sumathi had visited Moodigere along with husband, Dejappa, children and some relatives, to attend a marriage function there. For this purpose, the family had hired a Scorpio vehicle belonging to Shivaram, a neighbour. After attending the marriage function, the entourage was returning to their village, when the catastrophe happened. The vehicle, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle at Guripalla, went to extreme right of the road and hit a roadside tree.

Sumathi, who suffered grave injuries in the accident, succumbed on the spot. Fellow passengers sustained minor injuries. They are being treated and showing signs of recovery.

The vehicle was completely mangled on account of the intensity of the accident. A case about the accident was registered in the police station in the town.
