B'lore: Congress Flays BJP for Squandering Govt Funds for 100-day Celebrations

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Sep 11: Opposition leader in the legislative council V S Ugrappa has charged the BJP with misusing the government funds to celebrate an occasion that has nothing to do with the functioning of the government. The 100-day celebrations the BJP had organized are purely a party affair. The chief minister is misusing government machinery and squandering money without any sanctity or purpose, he criticized.

If the functions the BJP has been organizing were of the government, other parties and also the speakers of the assembly and council should have been invited, in addition to legislators, MPs, MLCs etc., Ugrappa said. He also spelt out his intention to move a privilege motion against the BJP for not inviting opposition leaders to the functions and also for holding a party function in the Vidhan Soudha, by breaching the protocol.

The only achievements the BJP can lay claim to, is the defections it had engineered and bus fare hike, he ridiculed. He wondered as to how would the government be identifying one crore beneficiaries to be benefited under various schemes it has announced, without consulting the legislators. The show is a gimmick aimed at influencing voters on the occasion of the by election, he felt. He also specifically pointed to the release of seven crore rupees for the seven assembly constituencies that will be going for by-poll shortly, to prove his allegation.
