New Delhi, May 22: BJP national president, Amit Shah, justified his party's effort to form government in Karnataka in spite of the fact that numbers were not in its favour. At the same time, he criticized Congress and JD(S) parties for not honouring popular mandate. He was addressing a press conference here on Monday May 21.
Noting that both the parties have holed up their legislators in hotels and provided them tight security, he wondered how such an alliance can last long. He noted that Congress party, which was humbled at the hustings, is celebrating its victory, while JD(S), which was bitterly critical of Congress during the election campaign, has forged alliance with the same party. He said that the celebrations being organized by both the parties in Karnataka can only be termed as the celebrations of respective parties, and not of the general public.
About the allegation that BJP had usurped power in Manipur, Meghalaya and Goa in spite of lagging behind in numbers, Amit Shah justified the same by saying that Congress had not staked claim to form the government in Goa and Manipur.
On the accusation that BJP had indulged in horse trading in Karnataka to get opposition MLAs to its side, Shah stoutly denied the allegation.
