Udupi, Sep 12: The officials of Lanco company that has taken over Nagarjuna Thermal Power Project, who had come to Yermal village on Thursday September 11 for laying pipeline to pump sea water for cooling the machines and discharging the used water back into the sea, went back empty handed, fearing friction.

At around 10 am on Thursday, Lanco company assistant general manager N L Jain accompanied by workers, arrived opposite Yermal Thenka gram panchayat office, for undertaking the work of laying pipe. After he saw that a crowd of over 50 persons had gathered there to protest against the move, he contacted the Lanco officials. Several company officials arrived at the spot thereafter, in three vehicles.

It appears that the company had not informed the policemen in advance of their intentions. Sensing that the crowd of protestors was swelling, they changed their minds after some time and went back without conducting any work.
