Kundapur, May 26: A man escaped after slashing the ear and back of an elderly woman in a deadly assault here on Friday, May 26.

The ghastly incident took place in Padukone gram panchayat limits, the victim being 75-year-old Rukku. Suffering from severe loss of blood and in critical condition, the victim was admitted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.

The son of Rukku's younger sister has been suspected to have committed the act. Sandeep (23), a resident of Bharath Nagar in Kanchugodu had taken Rs 25,000 from Rukku, a week prior to the incident. It is speculated that the attacker crept into Rukku's house all alone and stabbed her. As soon as he saw the blood, he made an escape. Rukku was rushed to hospital as soon as she was found wailing in a pool of blood. The reason for the attempted murder is not yet known.

Gangolli police have registered a case.
