Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Sep 13: In an interesting development, a person whose property was transferred to his wife after she filed his certificate of death, surfaced recently to claim that he was alive and kicking.

Sumati, wife of V Jagannath from Haralahalli in Pandavapura taluk, obtained the death certificate of her husband after applying for the same from Pandavapura town panchayat, duly filing a report that he had breathed his last. It is learnt that Sumati, resident of Ganigara Beedi in Pandavapur, married Jagannath 17 years back and accompanied him to Chennai when he went there, hunting for a job. Sumati however, came back after a short stay with her husband and started to live at her parental home.

On September 3, 2005 she reported to the town panchayat saying that Jagannath is no more and obtained death certificate. Using the certificate, she got a house standing in the name of her husband, valued at about three lac rupees, transferred to her name.

Jagannath came back from Chennai two weeks ago. In a complaint made to the Kennal gram panchayat where the said house is located and also the chief officer of Pandavapura town panchayat, the concerned have been informed of the fraud, asking them to cancel the certificate and re-transfer the house to Jagannath.
