Kasargod, Jun 1: Heavy rain inflicted lot of damage in the district. A woman was washed away due to the fore of water while two were injured after a tree fell on them.

Bailu (73), wife of Fakeera, a daily wage worker from Nakoor, Nettanige, died after being washed away in drain water. Late evening on Wednesday May 30, Bailu was returning home after the day's work, when water that was gushing through a drain on the way pulled her away. She could not recover from this sudden development and breathed her last.

The woman raised an alarm, at which some people in the vicinity came running to her help. She was found about 150 metres away from the spot inside the drain. Although she was taken to the government hospital here, her life could not be saved. Adoor police have registered a case about this incident.

The branch of a tree fell on the quarters of water authority at Vidyanagar here. A tree which got uprooted on the road at Kelugudde blocked traffic. Fire brigade personnel cleared the road and paved way for smooth traffic. When a jack fruit tree fell on the house belonging to Krishnan from Mavungal, his sons, Jishnu and Shreejit were injured.

A large number of electric poles including one which was carrying high tension cables snapped due to rain in the district and fell to the ground.
