Udupi, Jun 2: District BJP president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde addressing media persons at town BJP office at Kadiyali on Friday, June 1 said, “There are 8,276 graduates and 2,762 teachers enrolled in Udupi district. Two rounds of introduction of candidates is finished. Both candidates of BJP will visit Udupi, Manipal and Brahmavar on June 1 and 2. On June 2, in the morning, BJP candidates will start election promotion activity at Karkala led by MLA Sunil Kumar, afternoon at Kaup led by Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, evening at Kundapur led by MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty and will cover Byndoor constituency led by MLA Sukumar Shetty. Other places will be covered by respective constituency MLAs. Letter heads have been dispatched to all voters requesting to cast their vote.”
Revealing the number of teachers and graduates, the information on nine polling booths in the district was also given. They are as below:
Kaup - Government Model Higher Primary School
Ajekaru - Government Model Higher Primary School (east part)
Karkala – Government PU College, Karkala (south part)
Kundapur- Government PU College, Kundapur (south part)
Brahmavar – Government PU College Brahmavar (east part)
Manipal – Manipal Junior College, Manipal (MJC)
Udupi – Girls’ Government PU College, Udupi
Byndoor – Government PU College, Byndoor (north part)
Shankarnaryana - Government PU College, Shankarnaryana (west part)
Candidate of Teachers’ constituency Capt Ganesh Karnik said, “We will ask for votes on the basis of BJP government’s achievement in the past years. The Congress party did nothing for teachers and education sector in five years. This is our agenda to seek votes from voters.
“Earlier, there were 158 government colleges in the stat. Then, government PU colleges increased to 191. There was no technology college in the state earlier. Now new six technology education institutions have been set up during the tenure of BJP government. Earlier, the grant released for education sector was Rs 4,800 crore and now it is increased to Rs 18600 crore.
“As many as 3,547 teachers got terminated from the JOC course without having any substitution. Morarji Desai Schools are also shutting down due to fewer grants.
“There are 12 candidates for Teachers’ constituency and 8 candidates for Graduates’. There is no holiday for this election. The voting booth will be keep open from 7 am to 5 pm on June 8,” he said.
Ayanuru Manjunath, BJP candidate of Graduates’ constituency said, “I am confident of BJP winning in both the constituencies. MLAs will take the initiative of campaigning at gram panchayat level in respective areas.”
Ayanuru Manjunath alleged that injustice was made to labourers by the Sixth Pay Commission. “The Congress government did not given allowance to employees. This is an anti-labour government,” he said.
He demanded that the government has to waive interest on education loans. The date for repayment of has to be extended till candidates get a job.
Commenting on Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Manjunath said, “He has taken a clever step with regard to promising the farmers of waiving the loans. He gives excuses while talking about debt waive. His promise is unpractical. Kumaraswamy is like ‘Uttarakumara of Mahabharatha’. There is no clarity in his statement.”
Capt Ganesh Karnik speaking on payment of guest lecturers said, “Those who are eligible or UGC passed lecturers should be paid salary every month. During recruitment, they should get grace mark for their service. Negotiation was held at one phase and was stopped. BJP will consider this issue seriously.”
