Udupi, Jun 4: “There have been no transfers of teachers during the last two years. The state government has not responded to the problems of the education sector and teachers,” alleged South West Teachers’ constituency candidate Capt Ganesh Karnik.

Speaking in a news conference held at Kaup BJP office on June 2, he said that he had done a lot of work in the last two terms as the representative of teachers’ constituency. “There was huge contribution in the educational sector during the rule of BJP government. As many as 191 government pre university colleges, 11 government engineering colleges, 6 medical colleges, music, Janapada, law, agriculture, veterinary universities are opened during the term of BJP,” he said.

“Rs 18,660 crore are awarded for educational sector during the tenure of BJP government. Sincere efforts are made to solve problems concerning education and teachers. BJP has five MPs and 27 MLAs in South West Teachers’ constituency and Graduates’ constituency,” he said.

“Congress government has not even given an increment of 30% as per 6th pay commission,” criticized south west graduate constituency candidate Ayanur Manjunath.

“Only 8% salary is increased in reality. Retired teachers are also in trouble. Employees are not paid allowances during the last five years. I know the problems of employees from a close distance as I have experience as MP, MLA and office bearer in their organizations. I will work sincerely to solve their problems,” he said.

MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Kota Srinivasa Poojary, zilla panchayat vice president Sheela K Shetty, block president Prakash Shetty, district spokesperson Katpadi Shanker Poojary, Shamala Kunder and Mulidhar Pai were present.
