Mysuru, Jun 4: Scientist of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) here, Somashekhar (32), drowned during his visit to Chunchanakatte falls in K R Pet taluk of the district on Sunday June 3. Somashekhar had arrived at the tourist spot, Chunchanakatte, along with wife, Prathima, and two children to have fun during the weekend.

Having been lured by the sight of water in Kaveri river jumping down the falls and gushing between stones in the middle of the river, the family reached there. However, the family got into trouble almost immediately as there was sudden rise in water level that began to forcefully pull the family members away.

The people and some vendors on the riverbank immediately came to the help of the family. They saved the family members by extending a rope for them to hold. However, Somashekhar could not be saved, while his wife and two children were brought to safety.
