Puttur: 8-year-old Monya of PAC qualifies for Junior National Aquatic Championship

Puttur, Jun 5: Bringing laurels to the state, 8-year-old Monya Kousumi K of Puttur Aquatic Club (PAC), swimming in group 4, won a silver medal in 50 mtrs freestyle at the Sub-junior & Junior State Aquatic Championship, conducted by Karnataka Swimming Association at Mysuru on June 4. With a fantastic timing of 33.87 sec, she surprised her own coaches Partha Varanashi and Niroop G R when she reduced the timing by 3 seconds in the finals.

In spite of being the youngest in her group and this being Monya's maiden race at junior state meet, she comfortably qualified for the Junior Nationals Aquatic Championship to be held in Pune on June 26.

14-year-old Neil Mascarenhas, also from PAC won a bronze medal in 200 mtrs breast stroke in the same meet. Both are students of St Philomena English Medium School, Puttur. Both are coached by Partha Varanashi, Niroop G R and Rohit at Dr Shivarama Karantha Balawana Swimming Pool, Puttur.
