Udupi: MLA Raghuapati Bhat demands Rs 50 cr package for district’s development works

Udupi, Jun 6: MLA Raghuapati Bhat on Tuesday, June 5 demanded a special package of Rs 50 crores to be released by the state government for development work in the district.

Addressing media at Brahmagiri, he said, “I want the state government to sanction a package of Rs 50 crore to repair bridges, roads and to provide basic amenities in the district.”

Responding to the heavy rains that lashed across the city, he said, “I have never seen such natural calamity in the last 25 years. The district BJP will send a letter to the state government to release maximum funds to Udupi and Dakshina Kannada under Natural Calamity Relief Fund.

“Over 203 different damage cases have been reported in Udupi. I will appreciate if Chief Minister Kumaraswamy announces Rs 1 lac from CM’s fund for the victims’ families.

“According to the guidelines of the union government, the state government can release Rs 95,000 instead of full amount as a relief. So far, Rs 5,250 amount has been released in the first phase.

“The state government must release at least Rs 2 lac for those families whose house got damaged due to heavy rains. A proposal will be sent to the government requesting funds soon,” he said.

Speaking on te upcoming MLC elections, Bhat said that Capt Ganesh Karnik will contest from Teachers’ constituency and Ayanur Manjunath will contest from Graduates’ constituency.

“Manjunath is a good orator and he will become a voice for Teachers' problems. He has the capacity to raise problems at sessions,” he said.

Bhat further said that Udupi people are known as educated, but the number of enrollment of voters is very less. He urged everyone to enroll their names in the voters’ list and cast their vote without miss.

“During the tenure of BJP, we used to present Teachers’ award for SSLC and PUC teachers. But it is stopped since last five years. This year, we will restart the award. BJP will try to solve teachers’ problems effectively. The award will be offered on nine subjects of SSLC and PUC from both Kannada and English medium schools,” he said.

Raghavendra Kini, chief secretary of district BJP, Yashpal Suvarna, Prabhakar Poojary, BJP city president, Jagadish Acharya and others were present.
