Mangaluru: Estimated cost of infrastructural damages about Rs 20 cr: DC

Mangaluru, Jun 6: Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday, June 6 informed that the estimated cost of infrastructural damages due to the recent heavy rains is about Rs 20 crore in the district.

Addressing media, he said, “The heavy downpour on May 29 has caused heavy infrastructural damages. Even some small scale industries have approached us over their damages up to Rs 10 crore which we are looking into. The distribution of compensation is in progress and focus will be on providing relief. We will submit overall report by June 6.



“The problem at Pumpwell is not only because of national highways, but also due to certain members of public who dug cross drains connecting the main drain. We have issues instructions to clear the encroachments on main storm water drains. We have formed the committee led by MUDA commissioner and will submit an interim report about the encroachments. We have further strictly ordered to clear any encroachments visible to the naked eye. Our main intention is to identify encroachments and provide proper drain system,” he said.

Teachers’-Graduates’ constituencies’ election

Speaking on the upcoming Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies’ elections, the DC said, “The election of Teachers’-Graduates’ constituencies will be held on June 8 at 37 polling booths across the district. South West Graduates’ constituency has 23 polling booths and South West Teachers’ constituency has 14 polling booths. There are 2,944 male voters and 4,196 female voters in Teachers’ constituency and 7,233 male voters and 8271 female voters in Graduates’ constituency. There are 8 candidates in Graduates’ constituency and 12 candidates in Teachers’ constituency. Voters should select the order of preference of all candidates which should be mentioned in numbers. Writing numbers in word format will be considered as invalid votes. Violet colored sketch pen will be given to cast votes and secrecy of votes should be maintained.

“The counting will be held on June 12 at Maharani Women’s College, Mysuru. The polling booths will be manned by ASIs and PSIs. Surroundings of polling booths will also be monitored,” he said.
