Mangaluru, Jun 7: Water storage at Thumbe dam has been increased to six metres since January 6 this year. The affected farmers, whose lands have been inundated due to the increased water level in the said dam that meets water needs of the city, met the deputy commissioner on Wednesday June 6 and handed over a memorandum under the leadership of Vented Dam Affected People's Action Committee.

President of the committee, Subrahmanya Bhat, led the delegation. In the absence of the deputy commissioner, the memorandum was submitted to additional deputy commissioner, Vaishali. The farmers pointed out that when the water level was increased to five metres in the past, the policy of discrimination was followed in disbursing compensation.

Through the memorandum, the farmers have urged for disbursal of justified compensation without discrimination, and protect the interests of the farmers. Farmer leaders like Sridhar Shetty, Subrhamanya Shastri, Vasudev Mayya, Muruva Mahabala Bhat, N K Iddinabba, Victor Martis Sandesh and others were present.
