Bengaluru: PIL against governor's action in inviting Kumaraswamy to form government

Bengaluru, Jun 8: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the state high court, seeking to question the governor's action in extending invitation to form new coalition government of JD(S) and Congress under the leadership of H D Kumaraswamy.

The petition has been filed by Namdev, a Dharwad-based advocate. The litigation is likely to be placed before the bench headed by the chief justice of the high court next week.

The advocate has argued that the governor was not right in inviting Kumaraswamy to form the government although he did not enjoy majority in the state assembly. This action has delivered a blow to the supremacy of democratic system. The people of the state had given their verdict in favour of BJP, not to JD(S) and Congress. Therefore, it was not proper on the part of the governor to have given an opportunity to them to form the government," the litigant has argued.
