Udupi, Jun 9: On the occasion of his 59th birthday, a 15-acre land was donated by head of Shiroor Math Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji to Samvedana foundation for forestry. Swamiji, who is known for his many social works, took another step regarding forestry.

Swamiji officially handed over the documents of the land to Prakash Malpe, convener Samvedana foundation. Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Malpe said, “Samvedana foundation was established to take up social causes. In January, we had set a Guinness world record for reciting Vande Mataram at a time by a huge number of college students. At that function, a decision to grow forest was taken. Today, it is our pleasure to receive the land on the birthday of Swamiji.”

Swamiji kicked off the programme by planting saplings. Many other projects were also inaugurated at the programme.

Projects includes building a music training academy in Shiroor. It aims at binding of western and Indian music forms. Famous musicians will visit the academy and teach music to students. The project will be completed in 4 years. Swamiji also declared that a ‘Gau Shaale’ will be built in Shiroor commemorating his birthday.

Swamiji celebrated his birthday by cutting a cake. A 20-minute drums show by famous drummer Shivamani enthralled the audience. On the occasion, Shivamani said, “I have great respect towards Swamiji. Karnataka is a holy place. I will always come whenever called by Swamiji.”
