Mangaluru: Car falls into ditch, woman loses life

Mangaluru, Jun 10: A woman died in a tragic incident in which a car that went out of control of the driver and fell into a ditch that was 10 feet deep. This accident occurred on Saturday, June 9 at around noon near Bharath Benz Servicing Centre adjacent to Karnad national highway, Mulki near here.

The deceased lady is identified as Appi A Sherigar (83), wife of late Bappanadu Annu Sherigar, Nagaswaram vidwan of Mulki Bappanadu and mother of Nagesh Bappanadu, Rajyostava awardee artist. She is survived by four sons and a daughter.

The tragic accident occurred when Appi was returning after visiting the doctor at Suratkal along with her grandson. Surendra, driver of the car and Tushar, grandson of the deceased woman are out of danger. Though her son Nagesh took Appi to the hospital immediately in his car, she did not survive the fall.

It was raining heavily when the incident took place. The driver lost the control of the car when the water on the road got spilled on the front glass of the car and his vision was disturbed. As a result, the car fell into the roadside ditch.

According to locals, similar incidents have happened earlier also due to water clogging on the highway. People are venting their anger on issues of this nature on the highways that are occurring in spite of spending of crores of rupees by the government for the construction of the same.
