Kundapur, Jun 11: “The cabinet of the new state government is created considering district-wise representation of castes and communities. Kundapur taluk Yuva Bantara Sangha strongly condemns the failure to consider member of Vidhana Parishad, representative of coastal Karnataka Bunts community, veteran Congress leader K Pratapchandra Shetty for a position in the cabinet,” said Kundapur taluk Yuva Bantara Sangha president Kodladi Preveen Shetty.

Addressing media on June 9, he said, “K Pratapchandra Shetty deserved a position of minister. Members of Bunts community in Karnataka have been given a position in the cabinet since a long time. Though there is only one Bunts community representative this time, he is deprived of the position. He should be made a minister in the days to come considering his eligibility. Bunts community will unite and protest otherwise.

“Pratapchandra Shetty is identified in Congress for the last forty years. He has served as Vidhan Sabha member four times and four times as Vidhan Parishad member. He should have got the position by now considering his seniority. The situation is more conducive for Pratapchandra Shetty now. Depriving him of the position is extremely condemnable and an insult to Bunts community.

“When we review the cabinets of different states in the past, representation was allowed by all the governments considering geographical background, social justice etc. It is clear that the present coalition government has neglected Bunts community in the first instance,” he said.

Yuva Bantara Sangha honorary president Sukesh Shetty Hosamata, organizing secretary Dhananjay Shetty, secretary Ganesh Shetty Katkare, treasurer Sachin Kumar Shetty, Manoraj Shetty Jambooru, Ravishanker Shetty, Bharath Raj Shetty, Santhosh Shetty, Keerthan Shetty, Sachin Shetty and Rajaram Shetty were present.
