India also targeted as Trump hits out at countries over import tariffs at G7

Washington, Jun 11 (DC): Coming down heavily on countries over import tariffs during the G7 summit in Canada, US president Donald Trump also drew India into the fracas and claimed that the United States is like a piggy bank everybody is “robbing”.

"This isn't just G7. I mean, we have India, where some of the tariffs are 100 per cent. A hundred per cent. And we charge nothing. We can't do that," Trump, who left the G7 summit on a sour note, said. He further threatened to stop doing trade with countries "who are being unfair" to the US.

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing," the US President said at a press conference before exiting from the two-day summit in Quebec.

"Can't do that. We are talking to many countries, we are talking to all countries. And it's going to stop. Or we'll stop trading with them. And that's a very profitable answer..." he added.

Earlier this year, Trump had criticised India over import duty on the iconic Harley-Davidson motorcycles and had threatened to increase the import tariff on "thousands and thousands" of Indian motorcycles to the US.

Trump had said that the decision of the Indian government to reduce the tariff from 75 per cent to 50 per cent was not enough and asked that it should be reciprocal, as the US imposes "zero tax" on the import of motorcycles.

The US president had also referred to a conversation he had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard and called him a "beautiful man".

"And a great gentleman called me from India and he said, we have just reduced the tariff on motorcycles, reduced it down to 50 per cent from 75, and even 100 per cent," he said.

Trump also pitched for a "reciprocal tax" on countries that he said "abuse" their trade relationships with the US.

"So I say we should have reciprocal taxes for a case like that. I’m not blaming India. I think it's great that they can get away with it. I don t know why people allowed them to get away with it. But there’s an example that’s very unfair. And I think we should have a reciprocal tax," the US president said.

HINDUSTAN UNDER THE ABLE LEADERSHIP OF SRIMAAN NARENDRA MODIJI IS LIKE AN AUTONOMOUS INSTITUTION.

WE DO NOT NEED ANY GRANTS FROM CAPITALIST ECONOMIES.

HINDUSTAN CAN SUSTAIN WITH SWADESHI BUSINESSES ALONE.

THE POINT IS WE ARE THE LARGEST EXPORTER OF SKILLED MANPOWER TO THE ENTIRE PLANET.

NO ONE CAN ARM TWIST US WITH THREATS OF TRADE SANCTIONS. IF WE WILL CALL BACK ALL OUR MANPOWER RESOURCES FROM THESE COUNTRIES, THEIR ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE LIKE A PACK OF CARDS.

Over 80% of Indian engineering graduates are unemployable due to skill gap (Economic Times June 24, 2016) as our education system doesn't keep pace with the fast evolving technological world. FYI this article is not about 'grants' as you say. If we can sustain on 'swadeshi business' (whatever that means) why Feku is on constant tour? Bhakths say it's for attracting foreign investment?
And yes, try to call back NRIs from the west and earn a free middle finger salute.

@ Nagesh Nayak: By calling all Indians back home to India, Yes their economy may collapse... but what do you think will happen to the Indian Economy?? your blind responses due to your blind faith only shows how your ability to think has subsided... The indian economy is also powered and dependent vastly on the NRI`s and the fact that these NRI`s are still sending money back home to India is itself fueling our economy.. Have you also wondered if these people will want to come back in the first place.. They left india because they found something better outside India.. and then the question is what do you think will happen to these people if they even return back.. Your Shri-Man Feku has not created any other jobs other than Pakoda and Chai business... Grow up and think before you give blind responses...

You could be day dreaming @ Nagesh.
There are hundred thousands graduates and post graduates in USA, who are waiting to fill up the
    gap of the shortcoming.
For that reason now there going to be H1B visa regulations, because Indian companies undercut
the salary regime in US giving peanuts for the Indian engineers, where they are paid in Indian rupees
in India and in dolalrs just for their daily support in USA.
These engineers do not contribute for the economy of USA, because they do not pay Income Tax of USA.
Look at the profits made my TCS, Wipro, Infosys etc etc by squeezing Indian engineers.
Ths is real fact. If asked if these Engineers will to remain and live in USA, there will be gate crash, and all these Indian Companies will spiral downwards.

We had many supporters of Modi exulting him for visiting certain countries first time after so many years. Modi made record of visiting maximum times to US by an Indian PM in his first term.

How did his visits pay off ? This way, as Trump has put it. Nobody is living on this earth to make charity - all want their exports to rise. But this fool, thought that all countries will come to India to manufacture so that India's production will rise above all other countries in the world. He took 'Make in India' worldwide, only to be laughed at.

We are still purchasing our Bullet Train from Japan, defense armament/artillery from Russia/US/Europe. Within just four years, and at what expense ? No, his supporter will never question this !

    Shashank,

I don't reside in the US to say whether Hilary, Trump are or Obama was good. I am right here on the Indian soil, suffering by the every step taken by our leaders, assuring us it to be towards development, but nothing else than plundering nation's taxes. Suffering, for they taking world tours with a battalion or advisers and businessmen that yielded nothing today. Worst is, some of the looters who fled were very part of the entourage.

Well, even Indians those who greeted and cheered Modi on foreign lands have now realized that Modi didn't come to do any good for them, he just enjoyed the aristocracy - nothing more. Because their jobs are not secure, their attempt for a citizenship remains a dream.

exactly all our money is being collected as wi-fi tax for source & destination, parking tax, fuel tax, swach abiyaan tax, airport development tax etc., even before we board our flight. In the US we're free to go to & fro from airport however we like.
