Mangalore, Sep 19: Three Catholic institutions in the city have been receiving threat calls from the Sangh Paivar activists. Therefore, the district administration should arrange necessary security for these institutions, demanded All India Congress Committee general secretary and former union minister Margaret Alva.

Addressing the media persons on Friday September 19, she said that the St Aloysius College, Fathima Retreat House and the Fr Muller institutions have received the threat calls from unknown persons. "The callers informed them that suicide bombers will attack these institutions. As such, the district administration should take these threats seriously and arrange necessary security for them," she urged.

Further, she pointed out that the Sangh Parivar is making arrangements to hold a convention in the city on September 21. If the district administration grants permission for this convention, there will be further havoc in and around the city. The district administration should prevent such unpleasant developments, by refusing permission to the Sangh Parivar leaders to conduct any convention in the city, she urged.

District deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao has defended the police action, when she had called him to plead for the relase of the arrested Catholics, Alva revealed. "The DC said that the policemen had to resort to caning the protestors to to disperse the crowd from the road. The roads get blocked in the state and national capitals, when the people stage protests. The roads also get routinely blocked, during marriage and political processions. The police never resort to caning on them. But the police purposefully resorted to lathi charge at Milagres," she charged.

"No magistrate was there, when the police resorted to caning and burst tear gas shells. A nun has lost an eye because of the brutality of the police. The state government has failed to assure fair justice to all the communities of the society. If the state government fails to protect all the communities, then it has no right to continue in office, she warned.

I strongly agree with Mr. P. Tauro from Mangalore. The Adoration Convent at Milagres should be preserved as a monument in the present vandalized state after the due process of desecrecation. Let it be converted into a shrine of faith, hope, inspiration and solidarity to Mangalorean catholics all over the world. It could be even converted into a pilgrimage place. Our family has been visiting, praying and supporting this convent almost every year from the time it was established. I will support any individual or organization in Mangalore who could work on this suggestion. I will also write/meet the relevant authorities in due course.

We catholic have been taught to be united. Therefore I request all of there, do not cricize any of our catholic leaders talks on our behalf. Rather support them and show our unity. Yes, too much had been damaged religiously, mentally and physically. Arrange prayer service including rosaries in the churches and chapels, groupwise in turn. This is the time to bring the culprit to justice including police personnel.Unless and until justice is delivered, there should not be any meeting of any religion in public. May God Bless all who are working and supporting our catholic churches. One more thing, when New Life is the cause for all this, why do we need them to be united and then prove we are the culprits ?

It appears very strange that BJP speaks about god, terrorism, nationalism and Hindutwa, and practicing and supporting anti religion and anti national activities!!!!!!! Who gave right to Fundamentalists to represent Hindus? They are a small fraction of our Hindu society who wants to show the world that they are liers and hypocrites. 95% of Hindus have positive thinking and respect for their fellow Indians.

The Fundamentalists are not respecting God therefore not respecting places of worship. It is high time now that all religious heads join and agree that "places of worship of any will never never never be attacked or invaded"

Surprising that Karnataka Home Minister has taken terrorist attacks on church/prayer houses so lightly and given protection to terrorists and fundamentalists. Only people who do not really believe in God attack on places of worship. All religions preach 'Ahimsa' or non violence. Love of God is love of people not the love of plitical power. Places of worship for any community, is house for God. Anyone take law in hand or do not believe in God, attack or guide others to attack will taste their Karma in their rebirth and many a time this birth itself.

All fine with Mrs.Alva's big talk. It is better to talk less when the tempers are cooling and the GOI has initiated action. The adoration monastry should be left as it is, as a monument to the brutality that the community in Mangalore inflicted on inocent nuns and the convent. The government should not be allowed to repair it. It should remain like the bullet marks that in the Golden Temple at Amritsar to remind dvotees as what had happened during Mrs.Gandhi's regime.

Real protection and security will only come when BJP distances away from Sangh Parivaar, Bajrangdal, VHP and the like minded organisations. As long as BJP walks hand in hand with these elements, trust me, nothing is going to change. Noting the statements coming from the home minister and Chief minister and open statements from Bajrangdal leaders this is not going go away and protection perhaps is the last thing they have in mind. Rather than providing security to our Churches, the governments must weed out the activists and locked up and these organisations must be banned. Is BJP prepared for THIS? This is the test for BJP's honesty.

For all those people who are under the impression that our difficult time is over, you are wrong, this is just the begining, things will get even worse if the BJP comes to power in the center.........all this carnage and voilence against the Christians is the election strategy by the BJP,Divide and rule...the sad thing is many people get carried away by such vote bank politics...am sure this misadventure by the BD and VHP will go on till the elections, so be vigilant and take care.

All this time I was wondering why isn't Mrs.Magaret Alva speaking up, our community really needs people who can speak up, then only our cause can be heard, lets all stand united be any caste or creed and ask the Govt. to safeguard our people, places of worship and institutions. Hats off to you Mrs. Alva and hope and pray that your call will have some impact on the Government.
