Ind vs Afg: Shikhar Dhawan becomes 1st Indian to score hundred on Day 1 before lunch

Bengaluru, Jun 14(DC): India opener Shikhar Dhawan got off to a flying start in the historic Test match against Afghanistan here on Thursday, with the hosts racing past 150 at lunch.

After the first session, India finished at 158-0, with Dhawan (104 not out) and Murali Vijay (41) batting at the other end.

During the course, the 32-year-old not only got to his seventh Test ton, but also became the sixth player to do so before lunch on the opening day of a Test.

What’s more, the left-handed batsman became the first Indian to score a ton in the first session on day one of a Test.

India are playing this Test without the presence of permanent skipper Virat Kohli, with Ajinkya Rahane leading the side.

Afghanistan was granted Test status in June last year along with Ireland and it was soon announced that they would play their first-ever Test against the number one Test side.

Ireland had played their inaugural Test against Pakistan last month, which they lost by five wickets despite fighting hard.
