Udupi, Jun 15: Revenue minister R V Deshpande on Friday, June 14, held a review meeting of the district revenue department.
Speaking on compensation to families affected by the recent rains, the minister said, “For easy distribution of compensation to beneficiaries, a minimum amount of Rs 10 lac should be kept in the Tahasildar’s accounts. This will help in easy and fast governing,”
“Damage of houses due to uprooting of trees must not be considered as partial damage. Officials must take these cases under the complete damage category. They must re-check the list and compensation must be allotted again. Be generous while giving compensation,” he added.
The minister also warned officials not to go on leave during monsoon. He also advised them to personally visit places and check the losses. “You are not supposed to wait until you receive complaints from people,” he said.
He also reviewed the reports of drinking water, animal husbandry, Mescom and other related departments. District commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis showed a PPT presentation about measures taken during natural calamities.
Housing and urban development minister U T Khader drew attention on measures taken to prevent epidemic diseases. Deshpande also ordered to give show-cause notice to officials who skipped the review meeting.
MLA Raghupati Bhat requested to increase the compensation amount given to the district, for which the minister replied positively. Some issues from horticultural department, and non-response of Mescom department were raised during the meeting.
